Really bad recurring nightmares for about 15 years now, wondering how to get rid of them?
My nightmares are extremely realistic. It’s almost like being in a horror movie that you don’t know is a horror movie. Most times when I wake up and try to go back to sleep, I fall right back into the dream, so I often can’t go back to sleep for fear of having the dream again.
Last night for instance, I was a 40ish female homicide detective (i’m 19 in real life). There was a young boy who had been kidnapped many years ago who suddenly reappeared. One night he was attacked and he claimed it was the same woman who had taken him in the first place. In my dream, he was dating my teenage daughter. She insisted on riding in the ambulance with him. As we were driving to the hospital, we saw the ambulance on the side of the road. I walked up to the doors and suddenly had a horrible image of this woman torturing him as a young boy, I don’t want to go into detail, but it was really gruesome. When I snapped out of it I opened it and my daughter and the boy were gone. I walked to the place where I guess the boy lived and had another vision of my daughter and the boy tied up and she was burning them with a lighter all over their body. Then she started calling my cell phone and sending me texts that said what she would be doing to them. Really horrific stuff. I woke up after that and couldn’t return to sleep. I have had this same dream at least once a year for 5 years now.
Other dreams I have had over and over again since I was little were one where I am kidnapped and locked into a haunted house and end up accidentally falling off the roof and then my "ghost" looks down and sees my mangled body. Another, my entire family is massacred in front of me by a family friend. In another, I am a serial killer and I do horrible things to people. I also have one where a man breaks into my house and murders my husband and my baby and rapes me.
They are all so real and very terrifying and I have most of them at least once a month.
I was abused as a child until I was about 5, but then I was adopted by a wonderful family. I have been told this could be the cause for some of them but I’m not sure. I’m not on any medication and I keep a pretty similar sleep schedule because I have a 2 year old so we keep him on a nightly schedule.
Sorry this is so long, but I thank you for your help or advice!
Well I have moved 3 times in those years, so I don’t think that it’s a haunted house.
I usually avoid scary movies because I know how paranoid I am by nature.
Also, for most of those years, I have attended mass at least 4 times a week.

These dreams are very creative. I think that you should write down every dream you have. Try to include as many details as you remember. Keep paper by your bed so that when you wake up you can write down the dream right away (this may help you fall back asleep afterwords.)

I think that your subconscious wants you to be more creative in your life. You are a writer, but don’t know it yet. Take classes in creative writing and composition and grammar. WRITE! You may have found yourself a new career or hobby. I have a feeling that you need to expand your horizons and try this new activity. Your subconscious, at least, wants you to reach your potential.

Good luck!

stay away from horror shows and things that scare you, think of a lot good things and start going to a church
OR
your house maybe haunted and you should have it checked out
My Name is ?? | Aug 05, 2009

Let me embraced you my dear and feel the sadness in my heart of what you have been through when you are still a child. May the Lord forgive who abused you because it was the worst things that she/he given to you that’s why until now you have no peace in your soul, because you worry and fear too much that it may happened again to your love ones at present. I know you love your wonderful family now, and your subconscious mind made it remember how you suffered ,and what you are dreaming are more than worst. You are always on guard of the safeness and comfort of your family now and always on alert of the danger that may come to them. Stay calm and pray to GOD for continuous guidance and protection of your family. Don’t be afraid of the past. you have gone through.. Take care
Patience | Aug 05, 2009

Wow. This is a tough one. I sometimes get into bad dream cycles that build up to the point where I am afraid to go to sleep at night, but I had a great childhood. That means that nightmares could stem from some psychological or intellectual fear and not solely from traumatic memories of physical abuse. But of course, they very well could, as well.

One thing that might help is to realize that the brain is incredibly good at tricking itself. You can use that to your advantage. Note, you don’t want to trick yourself to SUPPRESS the trauma as that’s one possible reason for the nightmares themselves. So, try understanding yourself differently with a perspective shift. Scientific explanations are nice here. If you can see your body as a system of cellular and bacterial interactions, as Bonnie Bassler does at TED (linked), you can perhaps give yourself the emotional distance from the actual events that happened in order to process them without as much risk to your psyche.

There are also methods more generally regarded as "spiritual" that can trick you into getting the distance you need to enable processing. People use dream catchers and other charms to give them comfort and "protection." I actually have three mannequins in my room that I like to think of my protectors. I like fashion, too, so I dress them as well. It sometimes freaks other people out if they see these figures looming in their periphery and in the shadows, but that’s what makes me feel safer as I drift off.

Oh, and another way to "tap" into your dream energy is to let it excite and inspire you! H.R. Geiger’s horrific and compelling works were dream/nightmare inspired. White these things down. Try to notice details. Crave more. And when you do, perhaps inevitably and unfortunately, they’ll come no longer. :)

Hope this helps.

i dont wanna wach any movies earlier than yr 2000, and i have seen all freddy movies and friday 13 and amityville and most new releases. im just looking for one that s not so obvious. everytime i ask the most answers i get are ones that almost everyone in the world has already seen. i am a huge horror movie fan and i am trying to find one i havnt seen yet, so i guess the question is: what is your fav horror movie that you think a big horror movie goer ma not have seen but wont be too hard to find. sorry if i am being difficult. and thanks in advance.

Try 28 Days Later. New spin on zombies and it was pretty entertaining all the way through. Or Black Sheep, if you’re into the weirder, campy horror movies.

Saw was pretty intense. Well the first two…then it just got bizarre. I found saw scary because it was more believable like it could be something that could happen rather then zombies. The newer Dawn of the dead was kinda scary too.

Limiting yourself to movies post-2000 is a horrible idea, especially in the horror genre. Your best bet is to go back to the late 60’s early 70’s when people were actually coming out with "original" ideas. Of course they don’t seem that original now, since hollywood has to run everything into the ground with remakes and sequels and just plainly dumbing everything down. Try the Shining, that’s a good start. Maybe the ORIGINAL Dawn of the Dead (nothing against the new one, it was pretty bad-ass for a remake. Thank you Mr. Snyder). You want a truly horrifying experience? Watch Twilight ;)

Eastern Promises (2007)

IMDB rating: 8.00

Plot: The mysterious and charismatic Russian-born Nikolai Luzhin is a driver for one of London’s most notorious organized crime families of Eastern European origin. The family itself is part of the Vory V Zakone criminal brotherhood. Headed by Semyon, whose courtly charm as the welcoming proprietor of the plush Trans-Siberian restaurant impeccably masks a cold and brutal core, the family’s fortunes are tested by Semyon’s volatile son and enforcer, Kirill, who is more tightly bound to Nikolai than to his own father. But Nikolai’s carefully maintained existence is jarred once he crosses paths at Christmastime with Anna Khitrova, a midwife at a North London hospital. Anna is deeply affected by the desperate situation of a young teenager who dies while giving birth to a baby. Anna resolves to try to trace the baby’s lineage and relatives. The girl’s personal diary also survives her; it is written in Russian, and Anna seeks answers in it. Anna’s mother Helen does not discourage her, but Anna’s irascible Russian-born uncle Stepan urges caution. He is right to do so; by delving into the diary, Anna has accidentally unleashed the full fury of the Vory. With Semyon and Kirill closing ranks and Anna pressing her inquiries, Nikolai unexpectedly finds his loyalties divided. The family tightens its grip on him; who can, or should, he trust? Several lives – including his own – hang in the balance as a harrowing chain of murder, deceit, and retribution reverberates through the darkest corners of both the family and London itself.

Why is using diplomacy considered a cowardly action?
Diplomacy is and will always be a better alternative to war. Because at least during diplomacy people are speaking when that breaks down, then war has to be followed. But diplomacy is a better alternative, as all countries hate what wars to their countries, some of their leaders might not feel the same, but overall people hate what war does to a country? Whether towns being bombed, or civilians being called collateral damage, war is never pretty, nor in most cases is it necessary. It’s the 21st Century, the whole world has changed. The wars or petty squables between ations should be kept to the tables of conferences, not to battles.

Diplomacy isn’t cowardly, it’s the best way to prevent loss of life. True it doesn’t always work, but it isn’t cowardly.

I’m with NOYFB. Maybe I’m a cowardly pacifist but so what, I’m proud to not want to kill people just because they think different from me (although don’t get me talking about pedophiles) All wars are unnecessary and all Iraq and Afghanistan has done is fuel uprisings in terrorism activities anyway. Humans are selfish, greedy, violent. Wars make leaders feel powerful, they make profit and most people enjoy solving things with their fists, hence the world has difficulty with communication and understanding of each others cultures.

aquarius chick | Jan 09, 2010

Diplomacy requires thought. Many of those who love war are incapable of this. Therefore war is their only option.

Plus of course war makes some people a lot of money – diplomacy merely saves money (and lives).
Mordent | Jan 09, 2010

It is only considered cowardly by those who don’t possess the mental acuity to solve their problems by means other than their fists.
Stephanie laughs at most of you | Jan 09, 2010

It IS cowardly when history has proven time and time again, that it simply emboldens certain cultures / philosophies / countries, and you continue to pursue a futile course, which ultimately puts the US in danger…

Ahmadinejad has made a laughing stock out of Obama, and by default, the US, as an example…

Diplomacy requires intelligence and humility. Two things that American leaders never seem to have.

Diplomacy only works if two parties negotiate in good faith.
Rulez | Jan 09, 2010

Only losers consider diplomacy to be cowardly.
By the third grade most people have figured out that being big, and bold, and brave, and tough only means you are at the bottom of the stack.
A few people never figure it out.
Use of force needs to be a last resort.

Valentine
Valentine (2001)

IMDB rating: 4.10

Plot: Valentine’s Day 1988: At the school dance, geeky Jeremy Melton bravely faces one rejection after the other when asking four popular girls to dance with him. A fifth girl, plump and insecure, agrees, but they end up making out under the bleachers. When a group of school bullies catches them, the girl claims that Jeremy attacked her. This causes them to strip off his clothes and beat him up in front of the entire school. Flash forward to 2001. We meet the five girls who were in that school gym: Kate (Marley Shelton), Paige (Denise Richards), Shelly (Katherine Heigl), Lily (Jessica Cauffiel) and the formerly plump Dorothy (Jessica Capshaw). They are all in their 20’s now and trying to sort out their love lives, which is appropriate, since Valentine’s Day is coming up. After a disastrous date with a loser, one of the girls, a pre-med student, is murdered by a Cherub-mask wearing killer who sent her a death threat in the form of a Valentine card prior to the attack. After the four remaining girls are reunited at her funeral, they all start receiving threatening cards and messages. At first they don’t know who would want to hurt them, but eventually they figure that maybe Jeremy is responsible. Police records show that Jeremy has completely disappeared, so no one knows what he looks like. Could the formerly nerdish Jeremy have had plastic surgery and turned into one of the girls’ handsome boyfriends? Who ever it is, the lone survivor has to put a stop to this spurned individual’s murder spree before she, too, becomes a valentine to die for.

Rock (Rock, Metal, Metalcore, Punk, Emo, etc.) Vs. Rap.?
Ok 1st off. This is my opinion. Second don’t tell me I don’t understand music because, yes, I know almost everything about almost every type of genre. I am very musically diverse so I have done my research and I know what I’m talking about.

Ok the discussion. When I say rap, I mean Hip-Hop. I’m talking about mainstream artists today. I love old-school rap and artists like Eminem and P.O.S. and like artists that have intelligent brains. First off, Rap requires the use of little to no musical talent. Hate to tell you, it’s just talking. Whether you want to admit it or not, it’s true. An argument used in these conflicts usually is that rap is poetry. Yeah. It is. But, newsbreaker here, a lot of rap artists don’t even write their own songs. If you want good poetry go read a compilation of famous peoms. The next argument is that "Metal" isn’t diverse and only white males can suceed. Ok I sure as hell see a lot of whites in rap, right? The truth is go look at Killswitch Engage (black singer), Oceano (black singer), All That Remains (female guitarist), and We Came As Romans (asian drummer). There are many cultures in metal. The next is that they say metal only deals with Satanism and Killing. Yep. Thats it. Im a Christian and I listen to a few hundred bands who only write Satanic lyrics. Wrong. Why don’t you look up songs like Wake Up, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Still Searching, Priest and the Matador, Empty Walls, Lost and Found, Shipwreck in the Sand, Dez Moines, Louder Than Thunder, Downfall of Us All, Homesick, etc. Also they say Black Sabbath and Slayer are all about Satanism. Look into the meanings of songs you retards. Black Sabbath teaches that the Devil is something that should be feared, not worshipped. Though Slayer does have Satanic songs, all of them are Christians. It is just a topic that interests them. Also, the majority of Mainstream rap deals with: money, sex, drugs, or violence. And before you use my own point on me I understand that not all of it deals with these subjects, but the majority of it does. 99% of Lil Wayne’s songs are. And don’t deny it because it’s true. The next part is about vocals. The argument is that it takes no talent to scream, metal sing, etc. Well I scream. It takes a huge toll on your throat. As far as I’m concerned I talk a ton every day, and fast. It takes no special talent. Maybe if a 2 year old rapped, I’d be impressed. Now the final point. Instruments have been a fundamental to music since it began. Rap hardly ever uses instruments. The only thing it does use are programmed drum beats, which means a computer is doing all the work.

If you have anything to say, say it. One thing I made sure I did not do in this argument in this argument was try to insult the fans of rap. That is something they try to do by calling us freaks, emos, braindead, etc. and I wanted to rise above that level.

It’s an opinion. Who cares what other people listen to? Just listen to what you like and let others listen to what they like. I don’t think you’ll change anyone’s mind with this question.
Listen to Death | Jan 02, 2010

There is no such thing as a bad genre, only bad artists.

Unlike most people who post "ROCK OR RAP" questions, you seem to understand that. That makes me happy. ^_^ Frankly, I like the old stuff like Eminem. I love Eminem. He made me understand a few things with his music. The new stuff…

I’m a writer, I understand the complications and work required to make a poem–or story–good and new artists, like Lil Wayne for example, don’t use anything I’d consider creative. There are two Poetry types, in my opinion. There are those who use literary devices and make poems that make you think. And there are those who go "sat, bat, cat" and just spit out some "The cat is fat. The cat has sat". stuff that is right in your face, no creativity needed whatsoever.

To make this short, I think that Rock as a whole-genre has more creative and good artists that Rap does, when you stack it all together. Rap does have some good artists, but Rock just has more.

Omg! Never in a million years, did I ever think that I would find someone who I can musically agree with 100% Everything that you say in there is true, all of it! and screw the people who will insult you over this. The one point that im still trying to argue with everyone today, is that Hard rock/Metal isn’t all satanic. Yes, there are bands like that everywhere, not everyone believes in god. I do and I don’t want to listen to anything that’s going to insult him. For instance, Evanescence, I love that band, The music rocks, the members are awesome and Amy Lee (lead singer ) is truly inspiring, But, still today people continue to throw insults at her and them, left right and center, saying, There all goth/Emo, she’s satanic and only worships the devil. Wrong! all the members are religious, and im pretty sure the song ‘The only one’ is written about god himself "All our lives we’ve been waiting, for someone to call our leader, all your lies, Im not believing, Heaven shine a light down on me" – beautiful! not satanic at all. Hell if they call her lyrics satanic, I would hate to see what people would say about mine! I don’t want to insult rap either, and like you, I loved the old school rap, That Rocked!! and I miss it. Because the majority of rap today…..well actually most music now, is all about, Sex, drugs, and how awesome they think they are. I miss the lyrics that were poetic, and beautiful, and I know that they will come back one day, we just have to be patient, and support those who are trying. I admire that you scream, I sing rock, not metal But I can imagine how hard screaming would be, it would be a huge strain on your voice, People that don’t sing, don’t seem to understand that your voice gets tired, and can’t be pitch perfect all the time. Well I understand that, and I know, Screaming DOES take a lot of work and is something that can be mastered if ones persistent enough.

As for people calling Metal heads Brain dead, Emo’s and freaks. As far as im concerned, they can bring it! I can take all the criticism they can give!
Thank you for writing this, People like you give me hope that good music still has fans, and I appreciate it a lot. You know, I could sit here and ramble on about how much I appreciate you for asking this, but I think I’ve written enough, and I thank you for reading this far. Lol
but hands down,
ROCK METAL RULES!!!!! other genres can come close, but none can rise above. :)
Jade | Jan 02, 2010

I just had to say that not everyone in Slayer is Christian. Kerry King is an atheist.
Anyway I don’t see the point in showing rap fans any respect because I’ve never seen any of them show metal respect. Most rap sucks anyway.
Rap is one of the least complex styles of popular music. The drum beats are always played in a 4/4 time signature or no time signature at all. The music is made on computers, and it usually sounds terrible. The production is over-processed.
The song structures in hip hop are almost always verse, chorus, verse chorus.
You are right about the vocalist being just talking.
Metal is more diverse than rap that’s for sure. There are a lot of Hispanic metal musicians, and there’s a huge underground metal scene in Asia.
Almost every rapper is black, with some Hispanic’s. There are very few white rappers and even less Asian rappers.
Michael | Jan 02, 2010

I listen to punk rock. (I am punk) and I personly think that punk actualy has a message. Like to be who YOU are and not to just conform into society. Metal, rock and emo also has many messages and talent is all over those music genres. Rap acording to modern day rappers requires money, s.luts, drugs. The music comes in after all of that because to them its all they want which is why they make well… rhymes. All it takes to rap is to be able to rhyme.

Dead Silence (2007)

IMDB rating: 6.00

Plot: Every town has it’s own ghost story, and a local folktale around Ravens Fair is about a ventriloquist named Mary Shaw. After she went mad in the 1940s, she was accused of kidnapping a young boy who yelled out in one of her performances that she was a fraud. Because of this she was hunted down by townspeople who in the ultimate act of revenge, cut out her tongue and then killed her. They buried her along with her “children,” a handmade collection of vaudeville dolls, and assumed they had silenced her forever. However, Ravens Fair has been plagued by mysterious deaths around them after Mary Shaws collection has returned from their graves and have come to seek revenge on people that killed her and their families. Far from the pall of their cursed hometown, newlyweds Jamie and Lisa Ashen thought they had established a fresh start, until Jamie’s wife is grotesquely killed in their apartment. Jamie returns to Ravens Fair for the funeral, intent on unraveling the mystery of Lisa’s death. Once reunited with his ill father, Edward, and his father’s new young bride, Ella, Jamie must dig into the town’s bloody past to find out who killed his wife and why. All the while, he is doggedly pursued by a detective who doesn’t believe a word he says. As he uncovers the legend of Mary Shaw, he will unlock the story of her curse and the truth behind the threat from a rhyme in his childhood: if you see Mary Shaw and scream, she’ll take your tongue. And the last thing you will hear before you die…is your own voice speaking back to you.

Step Two: Meet boy’s sibling, she’s awesome. Spend the night the next week.

Step Three: Continue having absolutely no romantic interest in Boy until his sibling falls asleep as we spend a majority of the night talking. Mutual likeness.

Step Four: Get "saved", decide that there’s just not enough room for Jesus and a boyfriend at the moment. Apoligize sincerely, and suggest we pick things up at a later date (two months) if both parties agreed.

Step Five: Decide to wait three months instead, no problem.

Step Six: Decide to wait a year

Step Seven: Realize it’s not going to happen months later. Be kind of upset that Boy didn’t just tell you that upfront especially when you asked him to, and feel stupid for having to call him ( literally 10 words) to confirm.

Step Eight: Continue Liking him because adolescence sucks

Step Nine: Slowly stop caring so much. But be irked. On one hand, you still sorta like him but you know his faults and for the most part dislike the way he treats and talks to you these days and think to yourself " Why would I want that?" on the other, he’s an absolutey fantastic friend, but you don’t really like ‘like’ him, but you are both subject to a ton of time together due to circumstances that are NOT under subject to change. The only conversation you have with him is either absolutely necessary or out of obligation, you would still like that to change because you’re supposed to be family (’cause everyone in the church is family).

Step Ten: Understand that you can’t call him or talk to him and sort this all out, because you’ve looked so stupid so many times this year trying to do things of that nature and you don’t want another example of your foolishness. Also, if it turns out that he absolutely loves it this way, what a stap in the chest, didn’t you have enough of that after that 10 word conversation?

What do you do?
And should you decide to swallow your pride and sort it out, what would you say? and how? phone? in person? facebook?
